The results are in! Over 1,100 healthcare IT professionals – CIOs, managers, and HL7 interface professionals participated in The 2011 HL7 Interface Technology Survey conducted by Core Health Technologies. Our 42%+ increase in participation over our 2010 survey is just one data point in our many observations that confirm healthcare IT, and specifically the HL7 integration discipline, continues to heat up with interest, activity at all levels, and demand for solutions.
This years’ survey built on the success of the 2010 HL7 Interface Technology Survey. We again gathered answers to questions from three distinct perspectives – Healthcare organization CIO/CTOs; The MANAGERS who are responsible for healthcare integration, and the PROFESSIONALS who work within the HL7 discipline. Survey results are shared from each of the three perspectives that allow us to compare and contrast the answers. It’s interesting to see how closely aligned all three perspectives are in many areas, but also very telling to see such sharp contrasts in other areas.
The topics covered in the 2011 HL7 Interface Technology Survey provide a good snapshot of the organization. Participants provided technologies used, different hiring/employment preferences, and perspectives on their current interface engine and the degree to how they use it. This year we asked people to list their top 3 organizational priorities and how healthcare integration affects those priorities. Participants also provided their perspective on their organization’s preparedness for government stimulus bonuses and how that HITECH focus affected integration resources.
The most popular question last year was asked again this year - What interface engine do you believe will be the market leader in 2-5 years? You’ll be interested to see a change to how the field ranks this year.
Over the coming weeks we will analyze and review the survey results in this blog, compare and contrast the answers of the three group, and point out applicable implications to those of us who live and work in the healthcare IT discipline.
